PHOENIX -- We are headed to wine country in this month's issue of Phoenix Magazine.

And we're not talking Napa. The magazine dives into Arizona Wine Country, since the winery and vineyard industry is exploding in Arizona! There are around 100 wineries in our state alone.

You can hit the road to view and taste some of the best wines Arizona has to offer, and you can do it all with a guide!

But Craig Outhier of Phoenix Magazine says you don't even have to leave town to sample some of the best wines from around our state.

AZ Wine Merchants of Scottsdale is one of the best places here locally to find home-grown Arizona wines, that are low-cost and delicious.

"Right now in the day and age, we have over 100 licensed and boned wineries," says Pavle Milic of AZ Wine Merchants. "What makes it possible is the high altitude. About 5,000 feet elevation."

He says there are three major wine regions in our state: Wilcox, Elgin and Cottonwood. A dozen more wineries are set to open by the end of next year.
