PHOENIX (AP) -- Lawyers began picking a jury Thursday for an Oklahoma man charged with mailing an inoperable homemade bomb to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Jury selection had been scheduled to begin Wednesday for Gregory Lynn Shrader of Jay, Oklahoma, but it was postponed for a day because Shrader's son died in a vehicle accident Tuesday in Texas.

Shrader is accused of driving from Oklahoma to Arizona in April 2013 to drop off a package containing the bomb at a Postal Service collection-box unit in Flagstaff.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecutors say Shrader mailed the package to frame his former business partner.

The package was addressed to Arpaio and listed Shrader's former partner on the return address.

The partner denied sending the package.
