Explosive devices found in N. Ariz. storage unit

VALLE, Ariz. – Coconino County sheriff's deputies recently found a cache of explosive devices inside a storage unit in northern Arizona.

Deputies received a call from a man who said he found multiple improvised explosive devices in a mini storage unit in Valle that he was asked to clean out, according to the sheriff's office.

Flagstaff Police Department Explosive Device Response Team went to the scene. While bomb technicians were in the process of rendering the explosive devices safe, one of the pipe bombs detonated. No one was injured.

Investigators served a search warrant and found numerous explosive items in the storage unit, including pipe bombs, improvised explosive devices and shotgun shells with a fuse attached to the primer.

According to sheriff's officials, the man responsible for these devices is serving a prison sentence in New York state for charges related to unlawful possession of explosive devices and firearms in an unrelated incident.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
