PHOENIX -- Marge Wright, a longtime Arizona Humane Society volunteer and the host of 3TV's "Pets on Parade," died in her sleep Tuesday evening. She was 89.

The humane society said Wright was the longest active volunteer, devoting 56 years of service to homeless pets. She began volunteering in the organization's thrift stores just one year after the shelter opened in 1957.

Wright was also the face of the weekly "Pets on Parade" show for 40 years, helping find homes for more than 25,000 pets.

Services will be held next Wednesday.
