PHOENIX (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to five years in prison in the hit-and-run death of a man riding an adult-sized tricycle in Mesa in 2013.
A Maricopa County Superior Court judge sentenced 37-year-old Matthew S. McIver on Friday in the Aug. 13, 2013, accident that killed the 68-year-old victim.
McIver had pleaded guilty July 10 to manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Court documents indicate that McIver told Mesa police he drank three pint-sized beers at a bar before driving.
McIver told police that he panicked after hitting something on the highway on Aug. 13, but didn't know what it was.
