NOGALES, Ariz. -- Two people are in custody after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized cocaine and heroin at the Port of Nogales this week.
Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred a 19-year-old Nogales man for additional inspection of his Dodge truck Tuesday morning.
A routine inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of five packages hidden between the vehicle's radiator and firewall. The packages contained nearly 14 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $145,000.
Later in the day, officers at the Mariposa crossing referred a 44-year-old Nogales woman for a secondary inspection of her Ford SUV and discovered she was concealing three packages around her midsection.
Officials said the packages contained more than 4 pounds of heroin valued at approximately $58,000.
Officers seized the vehicles and drugs, and referred both people to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
