Police seek suspect in armed robbery at Phoenix check-cashing store

PHOENIX – Police are trying to identify a suspect who robbed a check-cashing store in Phoenix.

The armed robbery occurred at PLS Check Cashers on Central Avenue just north of Southern Avenue at 8:30 p.m. on July 10.

Police said the suspect entered the store, approached a woman and pointed a handgun at her while demanding money from the employees. The woman had a 5-year-old child with her.

The suspect fired two rounds into the ceiling and fled on foot without obtaining any money or property.

Police have released surveillance video in the hopes that someone may recognize the suspect by the way he moved or possibly overheard him talk about the crime.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 170 pounds, wearing all black clothing and a black ski mask.

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest or indictment of the suspect. Contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or silentwitness.org.
