Surprise police trying to identify suspect in credit card theft
By Jennifer Thomas
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Surprise Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a suspect who used a woman's bank card at a local grocery store and attempted to use it elsewhere.
Police said the suspect later used one of the victim's store credit cards to make online purchases.
Sgt. Mike Donovan said the victim was shopping at a store on July 19 when someone took her purse from a grocery cart.
The suspect left in a white 2005-2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000 or to remain anonymous call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
"The Surprise Police Department would like to remind everyone to keep valuables in your line of sight or on your person to deter this type of activity," Donovan said in a news release. "Be aware of those around you. The suspect who stole the purse would most likely have exhibited some type of suspicious behavior while trying to get close enough to do this without alerting the victim."
