Luke AFB to go on lockdown for active-shooter exercise
By Catherine Holland
LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. - Luke Air Force Base's 56th Fighter Wing will host a base-wide active shooter exercise Friday morning.
The event will involve military emergency services along with local, county and state law enforcement agencies and fire departments.
The exercise may include simulated explosions, smoke, role players with simulated injuries and emergency responders heading to Luke.
The event is scheduled to occur on base and should not close any off-base roads. However, those on base and in the local communities may experience traffic disruptions, gate closures and customer-service interruptions.
Exercises like this encourage cooperation with local officials and help familiarize civilian police officers, firefighters and medical staff with how Luke responds to emergencies.
