PHOENIX -- Police say a man who was found dead in Phoenix Thursday night appears to be the victim of a homicide.

The man's body was found in front of an abandoned mattress store and warehouse in the area of Interstate 17 and Dunlap Avenue.

Police have not confirmed how the man died, saying only that he was murdered. Initial reports were that the victim had been shot. Later reports indicated that he had been stabbed.

Detectives were called to the scene at about 8 p.m. Thursday. They believe the man was killed in front of the store as opposed to being dumped there.

Investigators also scoured a room at nearby hotel for clues and evidence. Police believe the victim was staying there or possibly lived there.

Investigators have very little to go on. They hope surveillance video from stores surrounding the crime scene might help them piece together what happened and give them some information about the suspect or suspects.
