PHOENIX -- As we make our way through the dog days of summer, Phoenix city officials are already thinking about the holidays. Specifically, they're wondering how to pay for a popular light display.

The Phoenix City Council is trying to figure out where to get the money to fund their holiday light display. The tradition of “Lights on Central Avenue” began years ago with installation of lighted decorations and festive holiday banners. Families drove along Central Avenue to enjoy the lights.

In recent years, the funding has diminished. And now, the city needs to raise about $75K to pay for the lights that decorate Central Avenue between Baseline and Camelback.

So now, the City of Phoenix and Phoenix Community Alliance, a nonprofit organization, are teaming up to find funds for “Lights on Central Avenue”.

Residents and businesses have the opportunity to become sponsors to continue this holiday tradition. All donors would get their names put somewhere along the light display, as well as mentions on social media, in a bi-monthly newsletter, and on the Phoenix News Channel.

The city will be sending out ads in residents' monthly water bills. For more information go to
