PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix firefighters say a morning house fire has left three dogs dead.

Capt. Benjamin Santillan says crews came upon a small house in south Phoenix engulfed in flames shortly before 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Santillan says firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and found the dogs inside.

They say all three had been overcome by the fire.

Santillan says the homeowner was not present and that two people live there.

There were no injuries to firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
