KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) -- Chief Deputy Jim McCabe will replace Tom Sheahan as Mohave County sheriff.

Sheahan is retiring, and the county Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 Monday to pick McCabe as his replacement.

McCabe's appointment is effective Friday. He'll be sworn in Friday at the Bullhead City courthouse.

Sheahan had recommended the board pick McCabe, but the county Board of Supervisors considered other candidates before picking McCabe.

McCabe has worked with the sheriff's office for 28 years and served as Sheahan's top deputy for 17 years.

McCabe says he's learning toward running for sheriff when the office is next up for election in 2016.
