Every year teachers spend hundreds of dollars out of their own salaries on school supplies for their students. But here, they can purchase staplers for $.50 cents, to all sorts of classroom supplies.... anyone who works closely with students can have access to a wide selection of materials, resources and training that will enhance and expand the learning process.

Free Mammogram Mobile
On Tuesday, July 29, the Phoenix Mercury is hosting the annual "Rock the Pink" night to support breast health awareness. There will be numerous activities taking place pre-game, but one element the Mercury is encouraging.... that all women in the Phoenix area take advantage of the mobile mammogram unit that will be at US Airways Center from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. that day. The mobile unit will be set up on the plaza by 8:30am. Mammograms are free with insurance, and those interested can make an appointment or walk-up on the day of.

Crossing Gaurd Training
The 2014 Regional School Crossing Guard Training Workshops are sponsored by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) and its member agencies.  Three workshops are scheduled for the following dates and locations:
 
- Tuesday July 29, at Washington High School - Auditorium, 2217 W. Glendale Avenue, Phoenix
- Thursday July 31, at Mesa Convention Center- Superstition North, Building A, 263 N Center Street, Mesa
- Thursday Aug. 7, at Rio Vista Recreation Center, 8866-A W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria. 
 
These training sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon. A total of about 400 school crossing guards are expected to participate in these workshops.
 
The training to be provided will include essential crossing guard procedures, information on the health and welfare of guards and resources available from police and fire departments to help the guards ensure the children's safety. 
 
Special sessions will review traffic laws regarding crosswalks, procedures that must be followed in the crosswalks and proper equipment that guards rely on to perform their duties safely and effectively.
 
School crossing guards that are interested in participating in the training workshops must preregister. Information and registration forms are available at the MAG website provided below.

Free Model Trains
Arizona Big Train Operators show off their model trains at Mesa Library and offering a free workshop on how to get started building your own set.
 
Free exhibit from July 28 to Aug. 2.  "How to" workshop is on Thurs. July 31 at 1 p.m. For kids 10-18. Raffle drawing for free tickets to Verde Canyon Railway and Grand Canyon Railway.
