PHOENIX -- Police are investigating a crash that put a motorcycle officer in the hospital.

It happened at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday at 32nd Street and Grovers Avenue, which is north of Bell Road.

The officer was southbound on 32nd Street when he collided with a car that was making a left turn.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department said early indications are that the car turned in front of the motorcycle. Detectives are still working to piece together the moments leading up to the crash.

At last check, the officer was in very serious conditions, but his injuries reportedly are not life-threatening.

No information about the driver of the car was immediately available.

Police closed 32nd Street between Union Hills Drive and Bell Road while they conducted the on-scene portion of their investigation. They have since reopened the road.
