SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. – A Cottonwood man was arrested for sex crimes that he allegedly committed in San Tan Valley.

Pinal County Sheriff's Office sex crimes detectives arrested Richard Summers, 43, at his place of employment in Sedona on July 14. He faces one count of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, two counts of sexual abuse and nine counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

In March, a 20-year-old woman reported that Summers had molested and sexually assaulted her over a period of four years while living in San Tan Valley. She said the incidents occurred between the ages of 15 and 19.

The woman said Summers was a family acquaintance.

She confronted Summers over text messaging then confided in a relative about the abuse. That relative said she also had similar incidents with Summers where she felt he was attempting to abuse her, according to Sgt. Pat Ramirez with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.

Summers denies the allegations. According to the sheriff's office, Summers said he thought the victim and her mother had concocted the allegations against him.
