PHOENIX -- As of 2:30 pm, the high temperature at Sky Harbor Airport was 113 degrees. All around the Valley, temperatures continued well above normal and an Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for metro Phoenix through Thursday night.

Very strong high pressure over the region will continue to produce very hot temperatures through Friday, with some locations approaching or even reaching daily record highs. At the same time, monsoon moisture will slowly increase over the area with occasional cloudiness at times.

A further increase in the moisture levels combined with several weak weather disturbances from Mexico are forecast to increase the chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, mainly across the mountains of Arizona. The weekend could be fairly active with another reduction in thunderstorms next week.

The extreme heat will start to break Friday with highs of 110 and then for the weekend, we’re looking at highs in the 105- to 109-degree range for the Valley.
