Suspect arrested in deadly Glendale shootingPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. – A paroled sex offender from California is in jail in connection with a shooting that left one young man dead and put another in the hospital over the weekend.
It happened at an apartment complex in the area of 65th and Olive avenues in Glendale Sunday afternoon.
Investigators are still trying to piece everything together and have yet to talk to the surviving victim, but they believe it started with a group of people who live at the complex and are acquainted with each other.
According to Officer Tracey Breeden of the Glendale Police Department, several people pulled guns while involved in an argument stemming from an ongoing dispute. Investigators have not said anything about the source of that conflict or what sparked this particular altercation.
Apparently those with guns fired at about the same time.
Right now, police believe Tyron Moore, 24, shot and killed Elijah Williams. They also believe Williams, 18, shot and wounded another 18-year-old. Police have not released that young man’s name.
“He is currently in stable condition and has yet to be interviewed by detectives due to his condition,” Breeden said in a news release.
Officers took Moore into custody and booked him on one count of weapons misconduct.
Breeden said more charges are likely once investigators wrap up their interviews.
“They are working closely with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to determine the most appropriate charges to be filed in the death of Elijah Williams,” Breeden wrote.
She also said Moore was wanted on a felony warrant out of California for a parole violation related to sex crimes.
At this point, police believe they have identified everyone involved in the situation.
