PHOENIX -- There is a new innovative way in the Valley for people of all ages to get piano piano lessons. It's called The Music Bus, and it takes music lesson to the students.

Glendale resident and longtime music teacher Patti Graetz, was inspired to think beyond the four walls of her private music teaching studio. Most of the requests that she was receiving for music lessons were for weekday lessons between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. from households where both parents worked.

As a parent of teenagers, Graetz didn't want to be teaching during prime family time. That's when a longtime friend suggested she go "mobile."

After doing hours of research and looking at numerous options, The Music Bus was born.  She bought an older RV, which she gutted. Where beds, bathroom, kitchen and dinette used to be, there are now eight full-size digital pianos. The brightly colored design is eye-catching on the outside but it's not until you go inside that you really get the full picture.

Schools and day-care centers that offer after-school care programs are jumping on board to have The Music Bus be a part of their after-school offerings. Parents love it because while they're still at work, their kids can have lessons. No more driving or giving up precious family time, and, group instruction is generally less expensive than private instruction, so it's more affordable.

The kids love it because, unlike traditional private instruction, they're in a group environment with their friends having a great time making music. The teaching method is contemporary and relevant, yet instills all the traditional and foundational music skills including music theory, technique, composition, improvisation and sight-reading.

As demand grows, there will be more Music Buses on the road offering lessons on other instruments in addition to piano. Teachers are professional musicians and teachers, have had a background check and possess a level 1 Arizona Fingerprint Card.
