SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- An injured hiker was airlifted from a Scottsdale trail Sunday afternoon.

Scottsdale Fire Capt. Danny Ables said a 54-year-old man injured his leg while hiking the Tom Thumb Trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

The Scottsdale, Phoenix and Tempe fire departments responded.

The Firebird 10 helicopter located the man about 1.5 mile up the trail.

Ables said the hiker would be transported to a local hospital.
