PHOENIX -- Police say they are searching for a man who stole beer from a Phoenix Circle K and injured the responding officer.

The Phoenix police officer responded to a radio broadcast for a beer run at the store near 19th and Campbell avenues around 6 p.m. Saturday, June 21.

He saw a man matching the description walking north on 19th Avenue carrying cases of beer.

The man walked up to the officer's marked Chevrolet Tahoe, placed the beer on the hood and continued to walk north.

The officer followed the man to a Terra Villa Apartments near 19th and Highland avenues, where the man fled through a pedestrian gate. Police said the man closed the gate on the officer's arm and fled through the complex.

The officer had bruising and swelling to his left arm.

The suspect is described as a 25-year-old Native American man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing roughly 160 pounds. He had brown eyes, black hair and acne scars. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, denim shorts, sunglasses and dark baseball cap.
