Phoenix weather: Warm, dry weekend on tapPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A rather dry and warm weekend is on tap for Arizona.
Although we’ll see a few thunderstorms in the mountains of our state, not much else will be happening for Monsoon 2014.
A drier flow in the upper atmosphere has scoured out much of the monsoonal moisture and at this point, there appears to be no real mechanism to get the moisture back into Arizona into the middle of next week.
And by next week, as a ridge of high pressure builds over the desert Southwest, temperatures are going to climb quickly. By Wednesday, we could be seeing high temps around the Valley of 114 degrees. It could be a record-setting day in some parts of the state.
The monsoon is off to a slow start around metro Phoenix, but a decent start in southeast and northern portions of the state. And long-range forecasts are still optimistic that we’ll see an abundance of late-season monsoonal moisture. We need the rain.
High temps for the weekend around the Valley will be in the 107-110 range.
