PHOENIX --  A woman hiking a Phoenix mountain Thursday evening was airlifted from the trail after becoming dehydrated, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Capt. Benjamin Santillan said firefighters were called to Piestewa Peak around 6:30 p.m. for a hiker in distress and found a 36-year-old woman feeling overcome by the heat.

She began hiking around 5 p.m. with one bottle of water. Santillan said other hikers were providing her with more water.

She was treated for dehydration and transported to a local hospital.
