Hiker who died at Grand Canyon identified as Ohio man

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. -- Authorities have identified a man who died at the Grand Canyon on Friday.

According to the National Park Service, Andrew Sammler, of Lancaster, Ohio, died while hiking up the North Kaibab Trail with three other people.

A park visitor called 911 at 2:20 p.m. to report that CPR was in progress on a male hiker approximately half a mile down from the trailhead.

National Park Service personnel responded and continued CPR, but efforts to resuscitate the 47-year-old were unsuccessful.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office are conducting an investigation.
