PHOENIX -- With abundant cloud cover around the state from overnight thunderstorms, convection has been slow to start today. As a result, the number of thunderstorms has been down substantially compared to Tuesday.

However, a favorable monsoon pattern remains in place through Thursday, so as a result, chances for showers will continue in the short-term forecast.

Temperatures will be running slightly below average to average through the weekend.

Moist monsoon flow will prevail through the middle of next week across the region, with varying afternoon and evening chances for showers and thunderstorms.

Rainfall opportunities through Thursday appear a bit more favorable than over the weekend as a somewhat drier air may temporarily sneak in from the west.

Due to elevated moisture values, high temperatures each day will stay near or slightly below seasonal normals.

Little change in the overall weather pattern is expected Thursday through Friday. The upper high will remain centered well to the northeast of Phoenix, and a weak to moderate general southerly flow will stay in place across Arizona each day, keeping plentiful monsoon moisture flowing across the deserts.
