Coach's Clipboard: Encourage youd kids, but don't push them into sports

PHOENIX -- When it comes to kids and sports, you don't want to be a pushy parent. You absolutely want to encourage them, but the line between encouraging and pushing is fine and easy to cross.
Chad Moeller, a retired MLB catcher turned coach, shared some tips with 3TV's Gina Maravilla.
"We want kids to try new things," he said. "We want them to experience new things, but what was fun for us might not be fun for them. Just because it was our goal and our aspirations, doesn't mean it's going to be theirs. ... It matters what they want to do, what they enjoy. "
At the same time, you don't want them to get into a habit of quitting. They need to learn to finish what they begin and to honor their commitments, which can mean finishing out a season.
