Get a 56-cent short stack of pancakes at IHOP todayPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A popular pancake restaurant is celebrating its 56th birthday with 56-cent short stacks.
The deal is available at participating IHOP (International House of Pancakes) restaurants Tuesday until 7 p.m., so if you don't have time for breakfast in the morning, you can have a short stack of IHOP's original buttermilk pancakes for lunch or dinner.
A short stack is three pancakes.
3TV's Heidi Goitia headed to the IHOP near 92nd Street and Shea Boulevard to get the lowdown.
"I think we're going to be exceptionally busy," general manager Dale Attig said. "It's basically a benefit to our customers who have been supporting us for years and years. Typically, we just like to kind of share the wealth, so to speak."
Tuesday's special price is less than a short stack cost when IHOP first opened 56 years ago.
"We're prepared for a huge crowd. ... This is a great celebration for us," IHOP spokeswoman Sherry Lowary said. "Every year we're going to keep doing this. ... At some point, we might hit our original cost."
Lowary said there are three secrets to IHOP's famously tasty pancakes -- temperature of the water (It should be 50 degrees or less.), lumpy batter and a 350-degree griddle.
While the water and the griddle temperatures are important, it's the lumpy batter, she says, that is essential.
"The lumps make the batter rise so you get a nice fluffy, thicker pancake, so it's much more delicious" Lowary explained.
Some 1,600 restaurants throughout the country are taking part in Tuesday's event.
