PHOENIX – The Phoenix Police Department is investigating the cause of a head-on collision involving a taxicab Monday morning.

The Phoenix police and fire departments responded to reports of a multiple-vehicle collision on Seventh Street south of Thomas Road at about 10:45 a.m.

According to police Sgt. Steve Martos, the driver of a pickup truck was traveling northbound and for some reason veered to the left into oncoming traffic, hitting a taxicab. A car then rear-ended the cab.

Three adults were extricated from their vehicles and transported to local trauma centers, according to Capt. Ruben Saavedra with the Phoenix Fire Department.

Martos said the truck driver was not wearing a seat belt and sustained serious injuries. The cab driver and female passenger are in serious but stable condition.

The third driver sustained minor injuries and remained at the scene.

At this time, police do not have any information regarding impairment or why the driver veered into oncoming traffic.
