GILBERT, Ariz. -- When it comes to feeding your family, it's hard to go wrong with pizza. Now families in the East Valley have a new option for this well-loved food.

MOD Pizza, a Seattle-based company that operates 16 locations in Washington, Oregon and California, is set to open in Gilbert. MOD Pizza claims to be "the originator of the 'build your own pizza' concept."

"MOD" stands for Made on Demand pizza. "It's an 11-inch pizza made right in front of you," says Chris Schultz, owner of MOD Pizza. "It's cooked in our 800-degree oven for about five minutes. And we charge by the pizza, not the topping."

The grand opening is Tuesday, July 8 at 4:00 p.m., and proceeds from all sales will be donated to the United Food Bank of Arizona to support their mission of feeding families throughout Arizona.

The first MOD Pizza in Arizona is located at 2904 South San Tan Village Parkway, inside the San Tan Village shopping center. (Near Loop 202) The 2,400-square-foot store features a large outdoor patio, high ceilings and a hip, inspired interior.

The menu lets diners build their own pizza in either mini ($4.47), regular ($7.17), or mega ($9.17). You can also build a "pizza salad" that features greens and toppings on an asiago pizza crust.
