PHOENIX (AP) -- A California chicken producer is recalling dozens of different products, but Safeway Inc. says its grocery stores in Arizona and Gallup, New Mexico, are not affected.
Safeway spokeswoman Nancy Keane says the stores did not receive any of the Foster Farms products associated with the recall that was announced Thursday.
The U.S. Department of Food and Agriculture says it found evidence directly linking Foster Farms boneless-skinless chicken breast to a case of antibiotic-resistant strain of salmonella.
The strain has sickened more than 500 people in the past 16 months and led to pressure from food safety advocates for federal action against Foster Farms.
As a result, the company issued a recall for 170 different chicken products that came from its Fresno facilities in March.
