PHOENIX -- With so many big 4th of July events happening across the Valley and state this weekend, keeping kids safe is a big concern.

Large events mean larger crowds. And if parents get distracted, it's easy for the little ones to wander off in just seconds.

Tempe Police Officer Aaron Levy joined Javier Soto on Friday's Good Morning Arizona with some key safety advice for the holiday weekend.

"The most important thing for law enforcement is to have a good description of your kids," says Levy. "Obviously if you get separated and we're trying to find them, the best way for us to do that is to know who we're looking for."

He even suggests taking a photo of your child before heading off to the festivities."Not only do we know what they look like tonight, we know what they're wearing, their hairstyle, and all the things that make it easy for us to find them if they're separated."

Here are some other safety tips:

-Wear bright colored clothing that's easy to spot
-Agree on a landmark/place to meet if you get separated
-Identify safe contacts like police officers, moms, etc.
-Use the buddy system for bathroom trips
