PHOENIX -- A woman was found dead at a Phoenix apartment Thursday after a man told police he had been fighting with his girlfriend.

Gila River police pulled over the 23-year-old man after receiving a call around 9:30 a.m. about a possible impaired driver at Interstate 10 and the Gila River crossing.

According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos, the man had a bandaged wound on his neck and told police about the fight. He then gave an address for an apartment near 70th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Phoenix police went to the address and found the body of a 22-year-old woman, Martos said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was being treated for the wound and questioned about the woman's death Thursday evening.
