PHOENIX (AP) -- Police say an altercation at a Phoenix party has left one man dead.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson says the shooting happened at a party early Sunday when someone came to the door of the apartment where the gathering was taking place.

A 25-year-old man who lived at the apartment opened the door, there was some kind of an altercation, and police say that's when the man was shot. He died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Thompson says detectives are trying to determine exactly what happened. They're also trying to identify the suspect and are asking the public for help.
