Third Annual Ultimate Dodgeball ChampionshipPosted: Updated:
PEORIA , Ariz. -- With the continued growth and popularity of the sport of dodgeball, Sky Zone Peoria, along with more than 50 other Sky Zone parks across the United States and Canada, will be participating in the Third Annual Ultimate Dodgeball Championship.
Teams will have the opportunity to compete for a chance to win $50,000 in cash prizes, beginning with a local qualifier that will take place on June 27 at 5 p.m.
The winners of the Local Qualifier will move on to the regional tournament which will be held Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9 in Las Vegas.
The 'Final 8' teams from the regional tournament will then advance to the championship tournament held Sunday, Aug. 10, where $50,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.
Ultimate Dodgeball combines the athleticism and excitement of traditional dodgeball with the thrill of the world's first ever wall-to-wall trampoline park's patented playing court, making it a one-of-a-kind experience.
3TV's Heidi Goitia hit the trampolines to get the lowdown on the first step -- jump-- on the road to the championship tournament.
Members of the Peoria Police Department partnered with Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park to turn Friday's qualifying event into a Special Olympics Fundraiser. During the tournament, as a side event, participants can test their strength in throwing a dodge ball in exchange for a donation to Special Olympics.
Peoria Police Department members will be on hand to use a radar gun to capture the thrower's speed. Special Olympics Athletes are expected to also help with the fundraiser and serve as ambassadors for the program. Price: $5 for five throws.
