PHOENIX -- A Peoria High School drama teacher accused of filming his sexual assault of two female students has pleaded not guilty.
Werner Alcid Girard, 37, entered the plea Monday morning in Maricopa County Superior Court. He faces charges including sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a minor and voyeurism.
Avondale police received a report on May 26 that Girard had cellphone videos of two underage students in various states of undress. Girard reportedly showed the videos to two 18-year-old males and one of them contacted police.
According to the court documents, the videos were filmed in March and April when the girls were 15 and 16 years old. Police said Girard performed sexual acts on the teens while they were asleep.
The victims said they were at Girard's Avondale home and he sexually assaulted them in his bedroom.
Girard lives at the home with his wife and children.
Peoria Unified School District officials said Girard resigned from his teaching position in May, but no complaints had been made against him in his seven years with the district.
Girard is scheduled to appear in court for an initial pretrial conference on Aug. 7.
