PHOENIX -- Phoenix police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing 25 years ago.

Cudellious Love, 58, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Laura Hunding.

Hunding was found by her landlord inside her unlocked apartment near McDowell Road and 48th Street on July 17, 1989. Police said she had been stabbed in the chest and abdomen and appeared to have been sexually assaulted.

Police said a kitchen drawer was found opened and a knife was missing from its sheath.

Evidence collected at the scene was sent to the crime lab for testing and DNA analysis.

In January, police received information about a DNA match.

Police interviewed Love last month and collected a DNA sample in order to confirm the reported match, according to court documents.

Love was arrested at his home near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird Road last Friday.
