NOGALES, Ariz. -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Nogales seized methamphetamine and heroin valued at nearly a half a million dollars over the weekend.

Officers at the Mariposa crossing referred a 27-year-old Mexican national for additional inspection of a Kenworth tractor on Saturday. They removed the smoke stack mufflers and found drugs concealed within the ends of both mufflers, according to officials.

The officers discovered 44 packages of methamphetamine with a weight of nearly 44 pounds and an estimated value of more than $131,000.

They also found four packages of black tar heroin and six packages of brown heroin with a total weight of more than 25 pounds and a value of more than $354,000.

The vehicle and drugs were seized.
