LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. -- Mohave County authorities are searching for a man reported missing on Lake Havasu.

The 62-year-old Hispanic man jumped into the water north of Parker Dam to cool off on Monday, according to Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter.

Immediately after the man jumped into the lake, high winds kicked in and took the boat away from him while he was trying to swim to it.

The man was not wearing a life jacket.

Carter said people aboard the boat attempted to throw a rope to the man and the operator of the boat tried to get the boat back to him, but it was too late.

Deputies conducted an immediate search of the waterways, including the shoreline, but did not find the man.

Divers from the sheriff's office and Lake Havasu Police Department resumed the search Tuesday morning.

On Sunday afternoon, a 37-year-old man died after reportedly chasing a runaway raft that had blown away in the high winds at Lake Mohave. The Bullhead City man hadn't been wearing a life jacket.
