Starbucks Education partners with ASU

Starbucks is rolling out a program that would allow its workers to earn an online college degree at Arizona State University at  a discounted rate. The coffee chain is partnering with the school to offer the option to 135,000 U.S. employees who work at least 20 hours a week. 
 he Seattle-based company says it will phase out its existing tuition reimbursement program, which gave workers up to $1,000 a year for education at certain schools.

Chandler Firefighters refurbish Salvation Army Center
Members of the Chandler Fire Department and other community volunteers will bring their tools, paintbrushes and energy to paint  a portion of the Salvation Army Community Center in Downtown Chandler. The center serves an important role for the people of downtown Chandler, and the facility is overdue for a fresh coat of paint and some other repairs.

Extra Innings East Valley is doing their part to keep kids in shape with their unique baseball and softball camps. Extra Innings in Mesa is the Valley's premier baseball training center. They are holding camps throughout the month with a heavy emphasis on  conditioning.

Homeless Dogs Need Shoes
There are hundreds of homeless youth in the Valley, and for many, their dogs are their only companions. Now that the triple digit temperatures are here, these  homeless dogs are struggling with the hot pavement, often burning their feet to the point of bleeding as they travel.  Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development is asking the community to consider donating dog booties to help these dogs in need and to provide peace of mind  to the homeless youth that care for them. 
All summer long donations can be dropped off at 3707 N. Seventh St. Suite 305, Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5 p.m. For more information visit
