PHOENIX -- A man was airlifted from South Mountain Park on Saturday morning after crashing his mountain bike, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Capt. Jonathan Jacobs said it took rescue crews nearly an hour to hike to the man, who was on the Mormon Trail near the top of the mountain.

Crews used a hoist operation with the Firebird 10 airship to extract the 42-year-old man from the mountain.

He was flown safely to a landing zone and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Jacobs said.
