Gila River police search for escaped inmate

SACATON, Ariz. -- Gila River police say they are searching for an inmate who escaped from custody while at a scheduled medical appointment.

Francisco Gonzales was at the Hu Hu Kam Hospital in Sacaton on the Gila River Indian Community Reservation when he reportedly freed himself from restraints and escaped on foot.

Police said he was being held in jail on local charges and had pending felony charges out of Maricopa County for aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Other agencies have been assisting with the search.

Gonzales, also known as Mijo, is 6 feet 2 inches tall, about 198 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He is 29 years old with a birth date of June 18, 1985.

Police said Gonzales has the words "OODHAM," "Gila" and "River" tattooed on his arms, and a tattoo resembling a crown under his right eye.

He is considered dangerous.
