GRAND CANYON, Ariz. -- The National Park Service and Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating the death of a Grand Canyon park visitor.

The park service was called to the Desert View Campground about 9:40 p.m. Monday for an unconscious man.

Bystanders initiated CPR, and park medics and rangers used an automated external defibrillator, but all attempts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful.

He was identified as 64-year-old Wolfgang-Hans-Joachim Glöde of Sievershagen, Germany, according to the National Park Service. He was reportedly on vacation with his wife.

Desert View Campground is located 25 miles east of Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim.
