YUMA, Ariz. -- On Tuesday, Yuma Fire Department personnel rescued a kitten who was stuck on a fishing pole in the carport of a home on Lorrie Lane.

Just after 11 a.m., firefighters were called to a home regarding a potential animal rescue. The firefighters found a kitten that had grabbed on to a fishing lure attached to a fishing pole.

The kitten was hooked by the lure in both lips and both front paws and was tangled up in the fishing line, rendering it unable to move.

Firefighters put a towel around the kitten to secure it and were assisted by an Animal Control Unit in removing the barbs from the hooks and from the kitten's wounds. The kitten appeared to be all right, with just a few small punctures according to a press release.

The kitten is believed to be a stray and was left in the care of the Animal Control Unit.
