TUCSON, Ariz. – A gold nugget valued at $30,000 was stolen from the Flandrau Planetarium at the University of Arizona.
The gold nugget from the Hubert de Monmonier Collection was taken at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to Sgt. Filbert Barrera with the University of Arizona Police Department.
The nugget measures 3.11 inches by 1.26 inches by .9 inches and weighs 7 ounces.
Barrera said the gold nugget is well-known to the mineral community and museum enthusiasts.
Anyone with information about the crime, suspect or location of the nugget is asked to contact police by calling 911 or 88-CRIME.
