PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man who took his young daughter to Mexico instead of returning her to her mother was sentenced Tuesday morning.

Brent Anderson, 33, was sentenced to five years in prison for attempted kidnapping and four years of probation for custodial interference after pleading guilty in February.

Police said Anderson failed to return the child to her mother on Feb. 22, 2012, after a scheduled visit with him.

Police detectives tracked Anderson and the child to a small town north of Mazatlan. Anderson was arrested and later extradited to Arizona to face charges.

The mother and daughter were reunited in early April 2012 after being separated for 45 days.
