PHOENIX -- If you've been thinking about adopting a pet, now is the time, thanks to a giant, free adoption event happening all weekend long.
12 shelters and rescue groups have joined together at more than 40 locations across the Valley for Maddie's Pet Adoption Days, which waives all adoption fees for cats and dogs!

The first step is to browse for shelter pets on the Find a Pet page. Hundreds of pets are available.

"It's a community-wide event," says Melissa Gable of Maricopa County Animal Care & Control. "We're hoping to adopt out 1,500 animals this weekend."
Once you’ve found an animal you think would be the perfect addition to your family, feel free to contact the organization caring for the animal.  They will walk you through their adoption application process and tell you where the animal will be on May 31 or June 1.

"We're always trying to match up the right pet with the right family," say Leigh Carter of HALO Animal Rescue.  "We ask questions about lifestyle and travel and how many pets are in the home."

If you’d rather search online for organizations closest to you, you’ll find a complete list of participating animal welfare groups on the Participants & Locations page.

The event was named after Maddie,  a beloved Miniature Schnauzer whose unconditional love, devotion, loyalty and spirit inspired her caregivers, Dave and Cheryl Duffield, to start a charitable foundation, Maddie’s Fund, in her name.
