ANTHEM, Ariz. -- One person is dead after a single-vehicle wreck on southbound Interstate 17 in Anthem Tuesday morning.

It happened at about 4 a.m. between Anthem Way and Daisy Mountain Drive.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the driver of a pickup truck sped, apparently lost control, and swerved all the way to the right. The driver then overcorrected, veering across the roadway and slamming into the median. A witness called 911.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, also a man in his 20s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

While it is early in the investigation, DPS officers suspect impairment and speed were factors in the crash.

The left lane was closed while officers conducted the on-scene portion of the investigation and cleared the scene. There were no traffic delays.
