PHOENIX -- Memorial Day is often referred to as the unofficial start of summer, and it certainly will feel like that around Arizona today. Temperatures in the high country will peak in the 70s and 80s, while Valley residents head back to the triple digits.
Look for a high in the Phoenix area around 103 degrees. Clear skies and abundant sunshine are expected today with light winds. Overnight lows will drop to the 70s under clear skies.
High pressure strengthens over the next few days and temperatures continue to climb. Look for Valley highs near 107 tomorrow and Wednesday. While those temperatures won't break any records, they are about 10 degrees above average for this time of year.
On Thursday, we may get some remnant subtropical moisture from Hurricane Amanda. The category 4 storm is south of the Baja Peninsula and is not expected to make landfall. Moisture from this system could lead to a chance of showers and thunderstorms, along with slightly cooler temperatures in the upper 90s on Thursday and Friday.
