Chandler youth baseball teams heading to Cooperstown for tournamentPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The Arizona Scorpions youth baseball team from Chandler has been selected to play in the Cooperstown Dreams Park and American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament the week of May 31 in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The Scorpions roster includes 12 players from the East Valley, 10 from Chandler and two from Tempe.
The team was chosen in October to participate in the Cooperstown tournament. Since then, the team has been raising funds to get to Cooperstown and play in the tournament.
"It's not every day you get to play ball in Cooperstown for the chance at a national title," said Jeremey Stawiecki, manager of the Scorpions. "I couldn't be more proud of these 12 exceptional ball players, who play their best game each and every day."
Teams will spend seven days and six nights in the Baseball Village clubhouses. Each team is guaranteed at least seven games (weather permitting) and will earn a seed to play in the single-elimination championship tournament. All teams will be represented in the "King of Swat," "Road Runner," "Golden Arm" and "Around the Horn Plus" skill competitions.
Cooperstown Dreams Park and the Dreams Park "Road to Cooperstown" program are where all independent travel/select and sanctioned teams are unrestricted to play baseball as it was meant to be played. The tournaments and the "Tournament of Champions" are open to athletes 12 and under with teams participating for a weekly National Title.
