Police: Dead woman found in street was victim of hit-and-run

PHOENIX -- Police are investigating a gruesome discovery Phoenix. A woman's body was found in the middle of a road Thursday morning. Investigators believe her to be the victim of a hit-and-run driver.

A passerby found the body in the area 29th Avenue and Thomas Road and called 911 shortly before 3 a.m.

Police have since identified the victim as Patricia Anne Herrera, 49.

"Based on the victim's trauma, evidence at the scene and on her body indicate her death was a result of a vehicle collision," Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said in an email to 3TV. "It is believed the vehicle which fled the scene may be maroon in color."
